The role we play
Planimalia consulting is a consultancy firm specialising in integrating animal-related considerations into crisis management and disaster resilience strategies and measures. We address a structurally neglected issue: how can we anticipate, plan for and manage the presence of animals during crises, whether these are due to natural hazards, climate-related or linked to armed conflicts?
Why can the animal dimension no longer be overlooked?
Every year, across the world, millions of animals – whether pets, farm animals or wildlife – fall victim to disasters. These situations have repercussions that extend far beyond the animals themselves: they give rise to security risks, health crises, economic losses, social tensions and ecosystem vulnerabilities that have a lasting impact on the resilience of regions and organisations.

Our mission is to support public and private sector organisations, charities and individuals in planning and implementing appropriate protective measures for animals exposed to disasters. We are working to shift practices towards a more comprehensive, coherent and operational risk culture, by incorporating the animal dimension where it is still lacking. By promoting the resilience of animals, we strengthen the resilience of human populations and ecosystems.
Our vision
We believe in a future where every resilience strategy (Local Emergency Plan, business continuity plan, emergency humanitarian response plan, etc.) will incorporate the animal dimension right from the design stage. Our vision is one of a paradigm shift: moving from risk management focused solely on humans to operational resilience that takes into account all the variables on the ground. Planimalia consulting intends to play a leading role in this transition, alongside the stakeholders who are shaping the responses of tomorrow.

Focus on the founder
Céline Sissler-Bienvenu
Céline is an international expert whose career path embodies a rare conviction: animal welfare and crisis management are two sides of the same operational coin. With a Master’s degree in natural sciences, her determination led her to become the first European to graduate from the Wildlife Specialist Training School, in Garoua, Cameroon. There, she developed a deep understanding of the field work that would take her from the equatorial forests to the Sahara Desert.
Shehas established herself in Africa and Europe as a key figure in animal welfare, species conservation and emergency response. In 2012, she coordinated the response to elephant poaching in Bouba Ndjida National Park, an operation that attracted global attention. In 2022, she was deployed to the Polish-Ukrainian border, and then to Greece in 2023 following the forest fires. From the ONCFS (now the OFB), where she began her career, to the Brigitte Bardot Foundation, via IFAW where she became European Director of the Animal Rescue Programme during disasters, she built up institutional expertise at the intersection of animal welfare and crisis management. She then founded Planimalia consulting to place the animal dimension at the heart of the resilience strategies of local authorities, businesses and humanitarian NGOs.
An expert member of the IUCN, she was behind a resolution to protect wildlife affected by disasters, which was adopted by 167 countries in 2025. She is regularly sought out by the media, and her work has been the subject of several widely watched television documentaries.
Why the name Planimalia?
The name was born of a simple conviction: Animal protection cannot be improvised. It has to be planned. By combining the terms planning and animalia - the Latin name for the animal kingdom -, we affirm that resilience cannot be built in a hurry. It is by taking early action – through assessments, action plans, training and operational protocols – that we can truly reduce animals’ vulnerability to disasters. Planning ahead means better protection.
